Are you signed up for 2023 Shake Out? Or looking to find out more?
Shake Out is an international annual event to encourage everyone, everywhere, all at once to prepare for future earthquakes, no matter where you are. This is important because you never know where you'll be when an earthquake rumbles along.
To join the Aotearoa New Zealand community participating, register your school, workplace, or just yourself at: Sign up for New Zealand ShakeOut — Get Ready — Emergency preparedness in New Zealand
Because this is a drill, you do get some heads up when the earthquake is going to be. In this case, get ready to DROP, COVER, AND HOLD at 9:30 am on Thursday 19 October. There are a variety of ways to kick off your drill, including joining Shake Out's livestream or playing the drill announcement over speakers.
After the shaking stops, do you need to practice a tsunami hikoi?
I spend most of my time in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and Te Tai Tokerau Northland. Our regional sign ups are looking pretty low. Can we work our way up the rankings?
